The employment opportunity being offered includes a competitive compensation package. Client Service Representative/Claim Specialist – This is a dual function position. The CSR/CS will assist victims of crime, their families, significant others and other claimants with their emotional and financial recovery in the aftermath of crime through the state’s Victims Compensation Assistance Program (VCAP). When functioning as a Client Service Representative, the individual will be responsible for providing sensitive and detailed claim and program information to, and answering questions from victims/claimants, service care providers, law enforcement, victim service programs, attorneys, court personnel, the general public, and other interested and authorized parties. Other duties include providing emotional support and utilizing crisis intervention skills as needed in assisting victims/claimants; and assisting VCAP staff by returning calls and facilitating the claim verification process by ascertaining information from service providers, clerks of court, police departments, and other entities as required to process the claim. When functioning as a Claim Specialist, the individual will be responsible for providing a range of confidential services by managing a caseload of victim compensation claims through telephone, Internet and/or mail contacts. Other Specialist duties include providing technical assistance on compensation related issues via the telephone; maintaining a positive working relationship and on-going communication with victim service programs, law enforcement and court personnel, and other professionals; and interacting with victims consistent with victims’ services theory and practice and advocating for their rights and services as provided by law, and consistent with victims’ services standards and procedures. The ideal candidate for this position will have a combination of skills, knowledge and experiences gained through direct experience in a public, private, or non-profit agency; criminal/juvenile justice system-based agency; center or program; or coalition, which assists victims in the aftermath of crime, or provides a range of services focused on the needs of victims of crime. A background in direct service to victims is required. Victims compensation assistance experience is not required, but would be a plus.
