IACP Training

First Line Supervision October 29-31, 2008 Lancaster, PA

MANHEIM TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CHIEFS OF POLICE WILL COSPONSOR A FIRST LINE SUPERVISION PROGRAM

As societies change, so do their elements, and policing is no exception. Both the workplace and communities reflect increasing diversity and different value systems, officers are empowered to resolve problems, and accountability for action has shifted. As police environments evolve, traditional assumptions regarding supervisory roles are now challenged. Like all change, this is inherently uncertain and stressful but presents a significant opportunity for the responsive, adaptable supervisor.

This course, designed for newly or soon-to-be promoted supervisors, will enhance the supervision skills required to successfully manage today’s organizations.

  • Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
define and explain the principles of effective management and supervision
  • identify and explain the steps in dealing with a problem employee
  • understand the concept of flexibility in management techniques regarding differences among subordinates
  • employ strategies to enhance employee willingness and involvement in the organization
  • understand and apply progressive discipline

Confirm the status of this course with IACP before making non-refundable airline reservations
