Superintendent of Police
Tredyffrin Township

            Tredyffrin Township, Chester County, PA, is conducting a search to fill the position of Superintendent of Police after the recent retirement of its former Chief.  The Township is a suburban community of 30,000 on Philadelphia’s historic Main Line.  It is a significant employment center with a daytime population in excess of 40,000+.  The Township is a Home Rule municipality with the Superintendent reporting to the Board of Supervisors.  Responsibilities include providing leadership and supervision to a department of 51 sworn and nine civilian personnel and preparing and managing a $9.5+ million annual budget.

            Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree; extensive knowledge of current issues in police management, the principles of public administration and constitutional, statutory, and procedural law and civil liability; and the ability to organize, direct, and control local police affairs consistent with legal requirements, union contracts, and municipal policy.  The ideal candidate would have experience in and demonstrated commitment to community-oriented policing, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, team leadership ability, participative management style, and the ability to work with diverse groups and individuals.  Salary depends on qualifications, with excellent fringe benefits.  Candidate once hired would be expected to live in Pennsylvania within twenty (20) miles of the Township.   Resume should include positions held, salaries, department size and budget, type of police responsibilities, and accomplishments.

CHIEF OF POLICE

Upper Pottsgrove Township
Montgomery County, Pennsylvania

Upper Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County, with an estimated population of 5,000, is seeking a Chief of Police with exceptional leadership and management skills to lead a staff of eight officers. Candidates must have served at least 3 years in a supervisory/command position in a law enforcement agency. Candidates must have documented experience in managing a progressive law enforcement agency including, budgeting, planning, and personnel administration.

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Police Science, Criminal Justice, Police Administration, or related field, is required. Graduation from the POLEX, POSIT, FBI National Academy, Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, the Southern Police Institute, or other recognized and equivalent law enforcement training is preferred.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a knowledge and proficiency in progressive operational police practices, planning, budgeting, contractual services, current law enforcement technology, public administration, personnel management, and exceptional leadership skills. The ability to work cooperatively with elected officials, municipal administration, citizens, and civic leaders is required.

The successful candidate must pass a physical and psychological examination and drug screening. A thorough background examination will be conducted. The candidate must be currently certified under Pennsylvania Act 120, (53 Pa. C.S.A. § 2161). Salary is dependent upon qualifications.

Tobacco Compliance Officer

Family Health Council of Central Pennsylvania is currently recruiting candidates for the position of Tobacco Compliance Officer. The Tobacco Compliance Officer will be responsible for ensuring retailers who sell tobacco products are not selling to juveniles. The officer will supervise controlled buys of tobacco products using a minor decoy. The officer will be responsible for prosecuting retailers and employees who sell tobacco products to juveniles. Successful candidates will be paid on a per diem basis. It is a part time position limited to less than 20 hours a week.

Persons hired for this position will conduct compliance checks of tobacco retailers in Potter and Tioga counties. They will supervise juvenile decoys and in some instances adult monitors who witness the sale. They will be required to collect, log, and maintain evidence received during compliance checks. Officers will be required to complete all reports as required in a timely fashion. Officers will also complete private criminal complaints on retailers and clerks who sell tobacco products to juveniles. They will be required to testify at legal proceedings arising from the prosecution of retailers and clerks. The officers will also comply with other related duties as assigned by the Tobacco Compliance Coordinator.

Job Requirements

All applicants for the job of Tobacco Compliance Officer must have at least 5 years of law enforcement experience. They should have good communication skills and the ability to work well with young people. Successful candidates will be required to provide their own vehicle, possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, and have a good driving record. They must also have current vehicle insurance that covers both driver and occupants. Officers hired for this position cannot use tobacco products and must be tobacco free for 3 months prior to their hire date. Successful candidates must pass a background investigation and complete a short training class.
