19th Annual Training Conference
Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation

The 2024 accreditation training conference is scheduled for March 18, 19 & 20, 2024. Training on the schedule this year includes the following:

Monday, March 18, 2024       Select ONE class for Monday

9:00 am – 4:00 pm      John Guilfoil Public Relations
This training will benefit Police Chiefs, Command Staff, PIO’s, and anyone wishing to advance their knowledge & skills in public communications and in communications in general. 

John Guilfoil is the Founder and Owner of JGPR. John founded JGPR in 2013 to support media relations for police & fire departments during a crisis. He has been honored nationally and internationally for his work on behalf of JGPR's clients which include; National Public Affairs Professional of the Year by PR News in 2015 & 2016, National Crisis Manager of the Year in 2016, and named as one of the industry’s 50 National Game Changers of Public Relations in 2017. In 2023, JGPR received worldwide accolades when the global public relations governing body, ICCO, named one of JGPR’s Police Department crisis management responses the best example of crisis management in the world for 2023. 

John Guilfoil will bring the full breadth and depth of his experience to the PLEAC Conference. Over the course of the day, John will cover the following topics:

         Psychology of influence and the responsibility of PIO’s
         Media relations best practices
         Using video to your benefit
         Crisis management fundamentals
         Press releases, social media & website “owned” media in 2024
         Breakout sessions covering key topics with role playing and simulation. 

9:00 am – 4:00 pm      New Accreditation Manager Class
This class is required for newly appointed Accreditation Managers and is recommended for every agency that will be using PowerDMS, including those agencies switching from paper files to PowerDMS, while working towards accreditation. This class is also recommended for AM’s who are preparing for their first PLEAC assessment. Due to class size, accredited agencies are limited to 1 attendee. Any additional attendees must be approved by the PLEAC Coordinator.

9:00 am – 4:00 pm      New Assessor Training Class
This class will prepare individuals to perform on-site assessments. This class has prerequisites which are listed on the assessor application. If you wish to attend this class, an assessor application must be completed and submitted with your resume as soon as possible but no later than February 16, 2024 to be approved by the Commission. Click here for an assessor application.

Pennsylvania Police Accreditation Coalition (PPAC) Meeting
The PPAC will hold a brief monthly meeting of the membership at the conference to discuss any business pending before the organization or for good of the order discussions. All are welcome; you do not need to be a member to attend.

Program Updates
PLEAC Standards Committee – Captain Leon Crone, Committee Chairman & Cpl. David Madrak, Committee Member
The Presidential Executive Order 14074, twenty mandatory DOJ credentialing standards have been imbedded into the PLEAC Standards Manual effective April 1, 2024, and will be reviewed. All agencies must update their assessments no later than September 20, 2024.

This session is recommended for all agencies and is mandatory for assessors who are due for their update training and wish to remain on the active assessor list.

PowerDMS One-on-One Training Sessions
PowerDMS will be on site all three days offering one-on-one LIVE in person training sessions with users of their software at the PLEAC Conference. The sessions are offered to answer questions, provide technical support and discuss ways to maintain efficiency.

Sessions will be scheduled on a first come first served basis. Those enrolled in either the Accreditation Manager Class or the Assessor Training Class and interested in this one-on-one training must sign up for either a Tuesday or Wednesday session.

PowerDMS one-on-one sessions will be available for anyone interested who registers for the conference. Once you have registered for the conference, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to register for these one-on-one sessions.

A reminder to all currently certified PLEAC assessors, you are required to have update training at least once every two years if you wish to continue to be on the active assessor list for PLEAC. If you do not receive the required update training, you will be removed from our list of active assessors. If you are in question as to your training needs, please contact us and we will provide you with that information.

Also, the Pennsylvania Police Accreditation Coalition (PPAC) will be sponsoring networking sessions on Monday and Tuesday evenings (7:00 pm – 10:00 pm). The room will offer light snacks, beverages and most important an opportunity for you to network with others who are working in the accreditation program. We wish to thank PowerDMS for their sponsorship.

The conference will be held at the Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey Hotel, 4650 Lindle Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111. We have reserved a block of rooms for those of you who wish to stay over. You must contact them directly at 717-564-5511. They will provide you with a room rate of $112.00 per night. The block will be held until February 23, 2024. You must make your reservations prior to that to take advantage of this special rate.

There is a non-refundable registration fee per attendee as follows:
